Welcome to AstroNova, published by Neuralworks. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our AR stargazing application across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account Information
- Email address and username
- Password (securely hashed)
- Profile avatar and display name
- Preferred observatories or sky hotspots
2.2 Location Data
- Approximate location (for sky viewing conditions)
- Used only with explicit user permission
- Precise GPS used only during active stargazing sessions
- Location history is not retained after session ends
2.3 Stargazing Activity Data
- Constellations identified and logged
- Digital logbook entries
- Observations and timestamps
- Photos taken through the app
2.4 Social Data
- Sky community hotspot reports
- Aurora/meteor alerts shared
- Social following and friend lists
2.5 Device and Analytics Data
- Device model and OS version
- Unique device identifier
- AR capabilities and performance data
- App usage patterns

- Photos captured through the app for computational photography

4. Location Services
AstroNova requests location permission to calculate accurate sky positions for your geographic location. You can grant "While Using" or "Always" permission—we recommend "While Using" for privacy. Location is not tracked in background or retained after your session. Precise location is only used during active stargazing.
5. Premium Subscription
Premium subscriptions include AI photography assist, ad-free experience, and HD satellite tracking. Subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store. We do not handle payment information.
6. Data Retention
Your observational logbook and badge achievements are retained for the lifetime of your account. Location history is not retained. Photos are stored according to your device's local storage. Upon account deletion, all data is removed within 30 days.
7. Your Rights and Choices
7.1 Location Control
You can revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings > Privacy > Location Services > AstroNova.
7.2 Photo Management
You can delete saved photos from your logbook at any time.
7.3 Data Export
You can export your logbook and observational data from the app settings.
7.4 Account Deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all data at any time.
8. Data Security
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Location data is not logged. Database access is restricted to authorized personnel. However, no system is 100% secure.
9. Children's Privacy
AstroNova is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If we discover such collection, we will delete the data immediately.
10. Cross-Device Sync
To enable seamless use across iPhone, iPad, and Watch, we store your logbook and badge data on our servers. This data is encrypted and protected. You can disable sync in app settings.
